Moot Court is a practical law paper which is compulsory under the Bar Council of India Legal Education Rules 2008 Section 24. As per the syllabus of Govt. Mizoram Law College, the paper is made compulsory for final year students bearing Paper No. LLB. 6.2. Detailed syllabus is made available on the Prospectus and Syllabus Book as well as in the College Website. Moot Court aims to stimulated court proceeding often used as an educational exercise for law students. Moot court helps in the overall development of an individual as a good and proficient lawyer and participating in moot court regularly makes a student familiar with court proceedings. 

Moot Court is an extracurricular activity at many law schools, participant take part in simulated or arbitration proceedings, usually involving drafting memorials or memorandum and participating in oral arguments. In most countries the phrase “Moot Court” may be shortened to simply “Moot” or “Mooting” participants either are referred as “Mooters” or less conventionally “Mooties”.

Moot court involves a stimulated appellate court or arbitral case which is different from a mock trial which is different from mock trial that involves a stimulated jury or bench trial (Trial Advocacy). Moot court does not involve actual testimony by witness, cross examination, or the presentation of the evidence its focused solely on the application of the to a common set of evidentiary assumptions, facts and classification to which competitors are introduced through not moot in the traditional sense. 

Moot court helps in the overall development of an individual as a good and proficient lawyer and participating in moot court regularly makes a student familiar with proceedings that take place generally in the real courtroom thus the primary objective of Moot court are as follows:

 1. Researching and writing skills

Participating in the Moot Court helps in enhancing researching skills. It will also help in enhancing students skills as to how to adopt to prompt situations and how one can tackle situations when he is at unease.

2. Building confidence

Mooting helps an individual to build his confidence in communicating and putting his view in front of the people, it helps a person to build his confidence to such an extent that he does not fear to question or to speak in front of anybody and can fight cases efficiently.

3. Practical Knowledge

Mooting helps in giving the practical implication and knowledge to the students who are studying law in such a way which they will never find in the books and would be unaware of, as practical and theoretical knowledge are like two different sides of a same coin.

4. Teamwork

Moot court often takes place in the schools or colleges who organizes it and various teams come and participate in the event. The team comprises of students where some students as the researcher and other as the speaker presenting their arguments. It also helps to work with people who are different from each other and also teaches how to coordinate with each other.
